It is common worldwide, but more prevalent in warmer climates. This is because nail fungus breeds better in warm, moist and dark areas.  Toenails are more prone than finger nails because feet are more exposed to ideal conditions that allow the fungus to thrive. A break in a nail or a cut may allow the fungus to enter and grow. Wearing the same shoes and using the same socks can induce the cultivation of the fungi.  It is a must dry the feet properly before wearing shoes. Also, it’s important to wash the feet properly after exposure to damp places such as shower rooms. There are different ways to prevent nail fungus, but in case that one get infected with nail fungus, it very important to know how to get rid of nail fungus.

The following are the most common remedies used to get rid of nail fungus:

  1. Put warm water and vinegar and in a basin, Then, soak the toenails in the solution for 20 minutes. Dry the toes thoroughly with a dry towel or an absorbent paper towel. The process is best done twice a day until the symptoms disappear. Ordinary vinegar can be used, but natural apple cider vinegar is proven to be more effective.
  2. The tea tree oil is known for its many medicinal properties. Different studies have proven that tea tree oil acts as fungicide and antiseptic.  To use it for nail fungus, simply rub the tea tree oil using a cotton ball to the affected nails. This can be done two times a day, ideally in the morning and before going to bed until the fungus is gone.
  3. Listerine (mouthwash) is commonly used as an antiseptic to treat nail fungus. To eradicate the fungus, soak the affected nails in Listerine for 20 minutes two times a day.
